Chimney pots are secured atop the masonry chimney cap using a bed of mortar.

Flue Liner Fit

• The chimney pot's base size does not need to perfectly match the flue liner's dimensions.

• However, the base must not obstruct the inner area of the flue liner.

  • Exception: Round-based pots are permitted to slightly overlap the corners of a square flue, provided this encroachment is no more than $3/4$ inch.

Placement & Anchorage

• The flue liner can either extend upward into the chimney pot or be flush with the top surface of the chimney cap.

• For protection against high winds (tornadoes, hurricanes) or seismic activity (earthquakes), extra anchoring is advised. This can be achieved by drilling two or more $1/4$ to $1/2$-inch diameter holes on opposite sides of the pot's base and using a bar to anchor it into the grout or chimney structure.

• Sizing Note: Square flue liners are sized nominally by their OUTSIDE dimensions, while round flue liners are sized by their INSIDE dimensions.
