Sizing:
1. Sizing for Solid Fuels (Wood, Pellet, Coal)
For wood-burning fireplaces and stoves, sizing is determined by the total square footage of the fireplace opening (the face area). If smoke currently drifts into the room, select a model with a capacity equal to or greater than your opening area.

How to Measure: Multiply the vertical height by the horizontal width of your main hearth opening (in feet). If the fireplace is open on multiple sides (e.g., sides or back), calculate the area for each opening and add them together to get the total face area.

For gas and oil units, sizing is based on the appliance's BTU/HR input and the diameter of the existing vent pipe. The fan must meet or exceed the maximum required BTU input.
